This article addresses the social funcion of the income tax and highlights the destination, in the Income Tax Declaration (DIRPF), to the social protection funds in order to recognise the social function of the Income Tax (IRPF). The study also brings the discussion about the lack of knowledge, from part of brazilian society, about the possibility of exercising a citizen's posture, through the allocations to the Funds of Social Support in the DIRPF. However, people maintain the old criticism about brazilian tax system, including the misconception that taxation is evil for modern's societies.
